Network! Network! Network!

Recently, I read an article on the Harvard Business Review weekly online “Hotlist” about networking and the importance of doing it.  I like the term HBR used in the article - “courageous networking.”   For many of us, that’s truly what it takes, courage.  It takes a lot of courage and effort to make those connections.  The HBR article recommends a few things to do right away:

  1.  Figure out who should be in your network.
  2. Stick your neck out.
  3. Remember networking is not a one-way street.

“Figuring out who should be in your network” and “Networking is not a one-way street” is something we discuss in our ISHR Group leadership courses; we talk about effective self-promotion and authentic networking.  At the end of our workshop, we encourage our participants to complete a “Personal P.R.I.D.E. Assessment.”  We want our participants to actively think about their networking efforts and identify where they are doing well and where they are facing some challenges.

We know that success at anything involves one fundamental aspect – EFFORT.
